Thinking of Moving?
Updated: Feb 8, 2018
You may be thinking of finding a new place right about now. Let me tell you, finding an apartment can be crazy without the right guidance! Take these tips with you, and we promise it'll be a piece of cake!
So you've gathered your future roomies (or yourself, if you made the decision to venture on your own)...
Now you need to choose the place!
1. First, make a wish list.
Maybe you need to be near the train, or even walking distance away from your university or job. Maybe you really can’t live without your own bathroom. Or maybe you’ve realized from the current place you’re living in that you really want that dishwasher included. Whatever it may be, jot it down!
2. Figure out what you absolutely can’t live without.
Did you figure those out? Now cross out the rest of your list. What?! This might seem counter-intuitive but because you think you really want those new kitchen appliances, you might miss out on that absolutely adorable brick-stone just minutes from that takeout place you love. Being open minded is the key to making sure your agent doesn’t miss out on showing you all the options you’ll love!
3. Gather all of the facts.
So you’ve narrowed it down to two or three choices. Where do you go from here?
Here we get down to the nitty gritty. Figure out all the factors and compare. Is anything included in the rent, such as gas or water bills? If you’ll need to take transportation, how much will that cost you? What’s the average cost of electricity in this unit?
4. Snatch it up!
YAY! You’ve chosen your future home! Now snatch it up before someone else does! This time of year, places tend to go quickly. Everyone’s eager to apply to the unit they chose. Your real estate agent will let you know everything they need to get that deal for you, so get everything in ASAP!
Bonus Tip: If you’re looking to get more bang for your buck it helps to know the more people you live with, the lesser rent per person becomes. Four people splitting rent on a 4 bed more typically than not will cost each person less than two people sharing a 2 bed.
